Breast Cancer Screening at TEKlaB
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Moroccan women. Early detection through regular screening and tumor marker testing can save lives. Our comprehensive breast cancer screening helps monitor treatment, detect recurrence, and assess disease progression.
About Breast Cancer in Morocco
Breast cancer accounts for 40% of all female cancers in Morocco. 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Regular screening and early detection significantly improve survival rates.
Breast Cancer Tumor Markers
CA 15-3
Primary breast cancer marker
- Monitors treatment response
- Detects cancer recurrence
- Tracks disease progression
- Normal: <30 U/mL
CA 27.29
Alternative breast marker
- Similar to CA 15-3
- Used for monitoring
- Detects metastases
- Normal: <38 U/mL
Who Should Get Breast Cancer Screening?
- Women over 40 - Annual mammogram + tumor markers
- Family history - Mother, sister, or daughter with breast cancer
- BRCA gene carriers - Genetic predisposition to breast cancer
- Previous breast cancer - Monitoring for recurrence
- Dense breast tissue - Higher risk, harder to detect on mammogram
- Early menstruation/late menopause - Extended estrogen exposure
- Breast lumps or changes - Any unusual symptoms
Important Notes About Tumor Markers
- Not for initial diagnosis - Mammogram and biopsy are primary diagnostic tools
- Monitoring tool - Most useful for tracking known cancer or recurrence
- False positives - Benign conditions can elevate CA 15-3
- Combined with imaging - Always use with mammogram, ultrasound, or MRI
- Trending matters - Rising levels over time more concerning than single result
What Causes Elevated CA 15-3?
Cancer-Related
- Breast cancer (especially metastatic)
- Ovarian cancer
- Lung cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
Benign Causes
- Benign breast conditions
- Liver disease
- Endometriosis
- Pregnancy
When to Test CA 15-3
| Situation | Testing Frequency |
|---|---|
| During active treatment | Every 1-3 months |
| After treatment (monitoring) | Every 3-6 months for 5 years |
| Long-term remission | Every 6-12 months |
| Suspected recurrence | As needed |
