Types of HIV Tests
HIV 1/2 Antibodies

p24 Antigen Test
Detects HIV protein (p24 antigen). Earlier detection than antibody test - as early as 2-4 weeks.
HIV PCR (RNA)
Most sensitive test. Detects viral genetic material. Can detect HIV as early as 10-14 days.
Combo Test (4th Gen)
Detects both antibodies and p24 antigen. Most recommended. Window period: 2-6 weeks.

HIV Window Period
- Antibody test: 3-12 weeks after exposure
- Combo test (4th gen): 2-6 weeks after exposure
- HIV RNA test: 10-14 days after exposure
- If tested during window period, retest after 3 months
